We are five minutes to midnight on the Doomsday Clock according to the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists. The clock has been
adjusted from seven to five minutes before midnight due ot the problems
posed by nuclear weapons and the new factor of climate change. The
perils of 27,000 nuclear weapons, 2000 of them ready to launch within
minutes, and the destruction of the human habitats from climate change,
brings us closer to castastrophe according to the scientists.
The Doomsday Clock was created in 1947 and has been
adjusted only 17 times, most recently in February 2002 after the events of
9/11.
